I imagine in the old days it took a lot of effort to shoot a cannon. You’d have to clean out the barrel, manoeuvrer the cannon into position, load new bags of gunpowder, pack them in with a stick, lift the heavy cannonball, roll it carefully into place, insert the charger, then aim the cannon. Once all that effort was completed it was easy – you just ignite the charge and get out of the way. After that the cannon itself will then do its job of blasting the enemy away.
This could be an analogy for proper Christian “striving.” We are told to strive and not to strive. Good striving includes self-discipline, maintain the faith, and stirring up the preaching of the truth. Bad striving is hitting those that oppose us with unseemly and prideful rancour instead of patience and gentleness.
In other words, one must strive to get Bible-truth loaded and fired from the cannon, but after that one must step aside and let God’s word do all the damage. A general would not be please if his soldiers guarding the heavy artillery foolishly abandoned their post so they could spar with the enemy in hand-to-hand combat. They’d be rushing out in front of the cannon and end up getting their own heads ripped off.
The Bible is a sharp sword that does all the cutting. One must “strive” to be in top physical condition and well-practised to hoist a sword properly. All the knight’s striving is for one intent, to land blows of the blade itself and thereby cut down the enemy. Likewise we should be bold to enter the fight, but remain chivalrous opponents, trusting in the superiority of our spiritual weapons, and not in our carnal pride.
” Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers…. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” 2Tim 2:14~16
” But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” 2Tim 2:23-26
” But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. A man that is an heretick after the first and second admonition reject; Knowing that he that is such is subverted, and sinneth, being condemned of himself.” Titus 3:9-11
” Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.” Prov 25:8
” If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest.” Prov 29:9
” For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.” 1Cor 1:11
” And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;” Acts 15:39
” Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” 2Tim 2:15
” No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier. And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.” 2Tim 2:4-5
” Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.” Col 1:28-29
” Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;” Phil 1:27
” And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.” 1Cor 9:25-27
” Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; That I may be delivered from them that do not believe in Judaea; and that my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the saints;” Rom 15:30-31
” Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man’s foundation:” Rom 15:20
” Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.” Jude 1:9
” But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention. For our exhortation was not of deceit, nor of uncleanness, nor in guile: But as we were allowed of God to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, which trieth our hearts.” 1Thess 2:2-4
” Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.” Jude 1:3
There is correct striving and incorrect striving. A bible-believer has enough obstacles to contend with just to boldly proclaim the truth. But it is God’s truth, not ours. Preach the scriptures and make your ego stand-down. Those that strive wrongly betray the fact that they have not first striven correctly.
The Bible will perform its work – whether to conversion or to condemnation – by itself.
” And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?” Josh 5:13-14
The women that want leadership are already the bad ones. The faggots are their natural allies to find a way in.
Be “nice” and “kind” and “understanding” and “continue the dialogue” – otherwise they will be “hurt” – and then how will you avoid the accusation that you are “hateful” and “unchristian” ?!
Once the women and faggots promote each other, good people leave, and only thing remaining in the Church from the godly generations that went before is their lingering endowment of money and property – now in the exclusive control of apostate hirelings.
The roles for Christian women are as follows:
- Younger women are to marry, obey their husbands, and have babies;
- Older women are to teach the younger women to obey their husbands.
Here are the proof texts:
1 Timothy 5:14-15 “I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan.”
1 Peter 3:1 “Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;”
1 Timothy 2:15 “Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.”
Titus 2:3-5 “The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.”
” For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
NO FEAR: ” When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.” Deuteronomy 20:1 ” Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9 ” And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;” 1 Peter 3:13-14 ” And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.” Luke 12:4-5 ” The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25 ” Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32 ” If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith? And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.” Luke 12:28-29
POWER: ” For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” 1 John 5:4 ” I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13 ” Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:10-12 ” And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that of God.” Philippians 1:28
LOVE:” Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.” 1 John 5:1-2 ” By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35 ” Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:” 1 Peter 1:22 ” But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:17-18 ” Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.” Psalms 97:10-11
SOUND MIND: ” Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid.” Luke 8:35 ” But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.” 1 Corinthians 2:14-16 ” My words shall be of the uprightness of my heart: and my lips shall utter knowledge clearly.” Job 33:3 ” Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,” Luke 24:45 ” Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness; But was rebuked for his iniquity: the dumb ass speaking with man’s voice forbad the madness of the prophet.” 2 Peter 2:15-16 ” Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:17
Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house,
lest thou be a cursed thing like it:
but thou shalt utterly detest it,
and thou shalt utterly abhor it;
for it is a cursed thing.
