In the early 1970′s a genuine revival occurred at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa and if anybody wants to know why God did that they only need to hear this old audio of Chuck Smith preaching:

Yes, you heard him right – Chuck said the Authorized Version was inspired in English, and that it was the dark ages church of Rome who was the one behind the false versions. Chuck Smith was mightily used by God at that time – because God will honour those that honour him. (“...for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.” 1 Sam 2:30)
But after 1979 the movement suddenly stalled – the Holy Ghost left the building. That was the year Chuck Smith got on board with the “Thomas Nelson Version” (which they deceptively named the “New King James Version”). It was all over from that moment forward.
Sure, God continued to work with individuals, services continued, new buildings went up, and the organization kept generating a big cash pile and fame – but all the rolling forward since 1980 has been coasting without revival or the power of God. Its slowing down has continued unabated – sure oblivion lies just ahead – like an old hippie at sunset lazily riding his big surfboard on one last wave all the way back to shore.
The stories chronicling Calvary Chapel’s headlong dive into last-days antichrist apostasy are all over the internet so there is no need to rehearse them all here. But it is notable how people are treated who try to warn them – they get the bum’s rush out the door – or worse. Calvary Chapel arrested, handcuffed, and pressed charges against a young member, a professional NBA athlete named Nick Van DerLaan, who boldly stood up at a speaker’s conference to challenge an outside speaker, Ergun Caner, regarding that man’s fraudulent life-story as an alleged ex-terrorist. Calvary Chapel’s appalling and tragic lack of discernment clearly extends to the real story behind current events (or is that, perhaps, just well-calculated?). Calvary Chapels today are spiritually dangerous traps that churn out doctrinally ignorant “casual Christian” egomaniacs. And big momma in Rome couldn’t be happier.
Listen carefully: Christians must have a Bible!
Without a final authority of God’s words written legibly in a book for all to read – you are just a bunch of lost little sheep who have no idea what the truth is. You will follow your own feelings, other sheep, traditions, and/or any self-assured “pastor” who corrals you with his barking sheep dogs. You are back in the Dark Ages all over again.
The “NIV” Bible (so-called) is not an authority – neither is the “Message” or the “Dewey Lockman” version or the one by “Thomas Nelson” or any other modern version. These all came out with one goal – to replace the King James Bible in the hearts of believers, and by displacing its sole authority, enable wolves to capture the flock. It is that simple.
When you have a King James Bible you can say “Thus saith the LORD” and rebuff any attempt to mislead you. It a matter of you and God – every Christian is a well-armed soldier.
But when Christians set aside the AV to embrace the notion all English bibles are equal, even though they have different words [!!], then nobody can say with any certainty what God’s true final words are in English – thus you no longer have a sword – everyone must trust a “scholar” or a “teacher” or their “feelings” for the answer: The Christians’ sword becomes a wet noodle.
That’s why you have Christians who think being a sodomite is just fine: they want to allow such people into the churches and “embrace” them with “the love of Christ” by “accepting” them. Those deluded fools didn’t start out being satanically insane – they got there by first picking up an NIV Bible, or its equivalent, and finding out that the word “sodomite” was now missing. Only “shrine prostitutes” are sinful – they get paid for sex and worship false gods. But the charming homos they watch on TV aren’t “shrine prostitutes” so they must be okay, right? Sure a “loving” “Christian” homo in a “committed” “adult” “relationship” is not a sinner – is he?!?
That dramatic example is just an extreme of what happens when ANY rejection happens of ANY words in the King James Bible. Many a so-called “Conservative Fundamentalist” is just as big an infidel when it comes to his submission to God’s exact words in the King James Bible – he won’t allow himself to submit to its final authority – he clings to his own preferences.
Without authority of the AV Bible, somebody else has to define right and wrong doctrine in English. Everybody becomes his own Pope to decide – and so these people won’t listen to anybody tell them “Thus saith the LORD” – they respond:
“No, that is just your interpretation. The originals are missing, and nobody knows what they really say, there are many opinions of the matter. I don’t think the LORD said anything like what the King James Bible said – I trust my new version that makes me feel good. I trust my Greek-Hebrew Lexicon, it gives me word choices so I can make up my own mind. I trust my religious leader, he is smart to tell me what God really said. I trust … ” etc.
Calvary Chapel’s rise and fall is not a new phenomenon. All throughout the history of the Church-Age the same thing occurred time and time again. A man with God’s words was mightily used by God, but they discarded the finality of those words and set up rival authorities of traditions, learning, scholarship, culture, and men. Some have described this inevitable process of apostasy as follows:
A Man -> A Movement -> A Machine -> A Monument
First a single man who prepared his heart is raised up by God for a mighty work. His followers create a living movement that is energized by the Holy Ghost and accomplishes a great revival. The movement won’t remain faithful to God’s words and loses its spiritual power – but it remains a robotic machine, carrying the work forward by human effort. In course of time the organization become completely humanitarian, the only memory of its illustrious beginning is a monument behind, a tombstone that marks a graveyard.
It is how one goes from the Reformers to the dead apostate main-line Protestant denominations of today. That is how one goes from the Great Awakening to today’s godless Ivy League Colleges. It is how the Anglican religion and Wesley’s Methodism lurch on, led by lesbians, queers, and unsaved do-gooders.
That’s why revival everywhere is over. God gave his words in English (AV 1611) and yet his own people discarded them.
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:” Amos 8:11.
