Holman Bible Publishers of Nashville Tennessee put out a pew bible that fraudulently represents itself to be a King James Version 1611 – yet it is modified:
Instead of putting the correct title, “The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews” they have deleted the Apostle Paul’s name!
Why do these stupid clowns always monkey with the Bible?
It is not their prerogative to make editorial decisions as to whether or not Paul the Apostle is identified as the author of the Book of Hebrews in the AV 1611. Since Holman Bible Publishers is selling what they purport to be a King James Bible, they owe it to their customers (not even to mention the fidelity they owe God Almighty!) to deliver exactly what they promised.
Here is how the first page of Hebrews appears in the 1611 edition:
The identification of the author as Paul the Apostle is very clear. The Cambridge AV Standard Text Edition, of course, maintains the correct reading:
All “King James Bibles” identify Paul the Apostle as the author of Hebrews.
But along comes Holman Bible Publishers and they have deleted the authorship of Paul from the book of Hebrews on their own accord – without any historical basis for doing so – yet they do so silently – while claiming that they are selling a King James Bible. That’s fraud!
This shameful example of Holman Bible Publishers of Nashville Tennessee shows how there are irresponsible frauds who are willing to make deceptive changes to the AV text and then pawn off their abominations onto the unsuspecting Christian public.
The average Christian will trust a “Bible” publishing company – yet Holman here proves itself to be a bad steward of the words of God – they are corrupting it and handling it with deceit.
Of course, we know that there are many critical scholars (saved and lost) who destructively sow seeds of doubt about Paul’s authorship of Hebrews. Calling into question the Bible is the devil’s most favourite trick (Genesis 3:1-3).
The epistle of Hebrews was clearly written for a Jewish perspective – and does not appear to present a fully developed Pauline gospel of free grace and eternal security (e.g., Hebrews 6:6). This is used to argue against Paul’s authorship.
However the explanation for that would be that likely Paul addressed this epistle to his fellow-Jews earlier than his later ministry which was focused on the Church-age gospel almost exclusively to Gentiles. It was Paul’s custom to always address Jews first – and it makes sense he wrote an epistle to them first. His authorship seems confirmed by the remark in 13:23.
Critical scholarship views this development in humanistic terms – that the epistles to James and Hebrews are somehow incomplete. But the Bible believer trust this to be the Holy Ghost’s unique means of taking the opportunity before the full revelation of the grace of God during the transitional period of Acts to publish scriptural admonitions that would resurface at the end of the church age with doctrinal application – i.e., that James and Hebrews will have their time of full doctrinal application during the tribulation and millennium.
Nevertheless, even if the Holman Bible Publishers believed they were justified to follow critical scholarship’s denial of Pauline authorship – that does not justify them “helping” God by deleting the AV’s attribution to Paul while purporting to sell what they label to be “King James” Bibles. They made their unauthorized changes without even noting in the margin what they did – they left the no warning as to the true reading!
This is an outright deception – it calls their character into question and makes their entire Bible questionable. What other subtle changes did they make?
Now those reading Holman Bible Publishers’ bibles will have to independently verify every verse they read! This is how a few changes can be used by the devil to sow doubt and confusion over all the words of God. The fruit of Holman’s changes are simply diabolical.
Many other King James Bibles are now appearing that also have unjustified spelling and word changes – many of them quite subtle. This is most unfortunate – a desperate attempt by the devil to discredit the AV after he failed to do so coming out with competing versions.
I find particularly irritating the publisher’s gimmick of adding “self-pronoucing” notation – an unsightly addition which mars the written the text with many ugly symbols and actually makes reading and pronouncing much more difficult. The AV itself removed from the confines of “scripture” the apocrypha books and its alternative readings that were moved into the margins. It is best therefore to delete these entirely since they are not scripture.
Where such minor changes are indeed historical (exist in prior editions) and do not result in a change of the sound when reading or in the meaning – then there is little reason to become paranoid. After all, the truth of God’s word is not dependent upon exact duplication or absolute perfection in presentation – it can still be the true scripture in every sound edition made. In fact, I am content to believe God allows a measure of insignificant variation between the Oxford text and a Cambridge text to masterfully employ the “two or three witnesses” which only enhances veracity by testifying of the truthfulness of the other copy.
But that said, Bible publishers are not authorized to make major changes as this Holman edition has done. Publishers who delete the text’s chapter headings (such as authorship – or the descriptions that precede many of the Psalms) or modernize spelling are no longer selling “King James Bibles” and should warn the public. The publisher must not intentionally delete words that were part of the original scripture text of the AV.
The AV has undergone “purification” by sevens at every stage of development. The devil has constantly sought to disrupt and defile this process – hijacking changes that were the result of the Holy Spirit’s purification – and attempting to justify unauthorized changes that are nothing but perversions.
